”3000 Miles” (2024) By Rachel Sumner
Three thousand miles
And a couple of stone throws
Is all it takes to get me home
Meanwhile, they know why I ran
Why I chose to roam in a caravan
And they know home is nowhere I will land
Whiled my childhood out in the dried-up Mojave
Searching for a poppy in tumbleweeds
And all those pretty Joshua trees
Looked like prison bars to me
And that was when I knew I had to leave
Seems like I'm always heading somewhere
Watch the road unfold in front of me
I cover up my tracks, but I keep on looking back
Am I free?
Pressed my luck, packed a truck
Headed out for the highway
Set only on clearing the Golden State
I tried a year in the Land of the Saints
But I can't pretend I am what I ain't
I saw the dawn then steered the wheel real straight
Seems like I'm always heading somewhere
Watch the road unfold in front of me
I can cover up my tracks
But I keep on looking back...
It can take miles to find yourself
It can take a while
Come see who I've become
Come see where I belong
Seems like I'm always heading somewhere
Watch the road unfold in front of me
I can cover up my tracks
But I keep on looking back
Seems like I'm always heading somewhere
Watch the world unfurl before my feet
Longed for what I lacked
Never found it looking back
I wanna be free
